How to use Steel Pallet Strapping/ Banding Kits
Steel pallet strapping or banding kits, is a tool used for securing loads on pallets or bundling items together. Here's a guide on how to use a steel pallet strapping/ banding kit:
Safety Precautions
Safety precautions are essential when using a steel pallet strapping/banding kit to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect yourself from sharp edges and potential flying debris
Materials and equipment you will need are:
Steel strapping/ banding roll
Tensioner tool
Sealer tool
Steel strapping seals or buckles
Pallet or items to be strapped
PPE (including safety glasses and gloves)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Prepare Your Materials and work area
Ensure you have a clear and safe workspace with all the necessary materials, including: tools, the strapping kit, a tensioner tool, and a sealer tool and check that the strapping material (steel banding) is the correct width (depending on the size of the banding kit) for your application.
Make sure you have your PPE on, just in case of any accidents!
Load/ Thread the Strapping Roll
Start by unrolling a sufficient length of steel strapping from the roll. Pass one end of the strapping through the slot in the sealer tool, leaving a few inches hanging out.
Position the Strapping
Position the steel strapping around the items you want to secure on the pallet or bundle together (ensure this is on a flat surface) and position the steel strapping around the items or pallet, making sure it's snug but not overly tight. Leave enough slack for the strapping to be tightened later.
Seal the Strapping
Use the sealer tool to crimp a steel strapping seal or buckle onto the overlapping ends of the strapping squeeze the handles to create a seal. The seal should securely hold the strapping in place.
Tighten the Strapping
Use the tensioner tool to pull the strapping tight. Apply even pressure to ensure the strapping is securely wrapped around the items or pallet. The strapping should be snug but not so tight that it damages the items or pallet.
Crimp the Strapping
Once the strapping is adequately tightened, use the sealer tool to crimp another seal or buckle on the other end of the strapping. This will secure the tensioned strapping in place.
Trim Excess Strapping
If there is excess strapping, use a pair of heavy-duty shears or a strapping cutter to trim it, leaving a neat and safe finish.
Inspect and Adjust
Inspect the strapping to ensure it is securely in place and holding the items or pallet together. Make any necessary adjustments if the strapping has become loose during the process.
Label or Mark
If required, label or mark the strapping with relevant information such as shipping addresses, handling instructions, or other identification marks. Once the strapping is secure and any labelling is done, your pallet or bundled items are ready for shipping or storage.
Remember to follow safety guidelines and manufacturer's instructions for the specific strapping and tools you are using, as the exact procedures may vary slightly depending on the brand and type of equipment. It's crucial to use appropriate tension and sealing techniques to ensure the strapping is secure and reliable for your specific application.
