The Most Common Paslode Nail Gun Troubleshooting Issues

Many of the faults and problems that occur on Paslode nail guns can be prevented by following these simple steps.

Generic Maintenance

Cleaning your gun

You should be provided with a tool cleaner and lubricating oil with your Paslode nail gun tool case. It’s important to give your nail gun a quick clean every so often to help prevent the build up inside the nailer, this helps it fire better for longer.

What should I do first?

  • If you are having issues with your nail gun you should always start with thoroughly cleaning it.

  • Ensure there are no nail jams that are preventing the nail gun from firing correctly. If this is all clear, it may be an issue with the battery.

  • Check your battery charger and batteries. Double check your charger is working properly before you charge the battery. If there is an alternating flashing red and green light, then your battery is faulty. Also, make sure the battery is fully charged before you operate the nail gun.

  • Finally, check the nails and fuel that you are using. Try switching the nails and fuel cell independently to see if they fix the issue. (You should also make sure you’re using the right Paslode accessories and consumables for your specific nail gun model. Each machine is compatible with certain types of nails, gas, etc.)

Check the contacts are not bent. This can occur from inserting and removing the battery.

Make sure the contacts have no corrosion on them, for example, this can appear from water damage.

Common Issues

Firing Issues

  • Check there is not a nail jam, if there is this will stop the nails from moving forward.

  • Ensure the nails being used in the nailer are compatible for your machine - this also goes for the correct gas!

  • If the nail gun isn’t firing or is firing intermittently, make sure you check the gas fuel cell you are using. It may be the gas fuel cell is not attached correctly, alternatively check the use by date. If the gas is older than the sell by date it depressurizes.

The Nail Gun Firing Pit is Bent

  • Again, check the correct type of Paslode nails are being used.

  • Check the nailer has not been dropped.

  • It may be generic wear and tear, in this case you will need to replace it. .

Continuously Running Fan

  • This will occur when the tool probe is stuck in a retracted position (as it would be when you press the tool down prior to pressing the trigger). If your probe is free moving, it suggests there isn’t an issue.

  • There is a flashing green and red light on the nailer

  • There may be a problem with the motor.

  • There could also be an issue with the electrics, this could be something as simple as a loose wire.

  • Electrical issues

  • If there is a damaged or disconnected cable, it can result in several issues, from a light not working, lack of power to the fan, not being able to fire and the nail gun generally not working at all.

  • You may encounter there being a constant red light. To check if this is an electrical fault, remove the rear cap (where the air vents are) and ensure all electrics and cables look correct.

  • What if my nail gun still isn’t working?

With your Paslode nail gun, you will have received a user manual which may contain information for your troubleshooting issue.

If this isn’t the case and you are still experiencing issues after eliminating the maintenance checks and advice above - your tool more than likely needs to be checked by a trained tool service centre.
