I have had a MS230 for a number of years - when I measure the bar, it is just over 13" from the saw body to tip if the bar - is that then a 14" bar? If so, will this 16" bar work? And if so, would I need a new longer chain? Finally, if this bar is longer than my original, can you supply the 14" bar?

Either would fit on your machine it just depends which size you need.
The 14" bar and chain are under these part no.'s 3005 000 4809 and 3636 003 0050.
The 16" bar and chain are as follows: 3005 008 4813 and 3636 003 005.
